The Sanchi stupa



The stupa at Sanchi 60 kms from Bhopal is part of the Buddhist Vihara the construction of which was started by the great Mauryan emperor Ashoka ,to which several new stupas were added later. The stupas together with the elaborately carved torans(gateways) constitute examples of the finest Buddhist art that has suvived the ravages of time.
